When 3% SSA is added, proteins precipitate, and the sample turns cloudy. The more cloudiness, the more protein present. Unlike the standard dipstick, which mainly detects albumin, the SSA test picks up all proteins, including globulins and Bence Jones proteins (important in multiple myeloma). It’s a simple, old-school test, but it tells you a lot.
