The Virginia Senate has passed a proposed constitutional amendment, allowing the state to begin congressional map redistricting before 2026.

Virginia House Democrats on Tuesday afternoon released the long-awaited text of their proposed constitutional amendment that would allow the General Assembly to modify congressional districts mid-decade if another state redraws its own congressional map for political reasons.

Two votes would be needed to pass such an amendment — one this week, and another after Jan. 14, 2026 once the newly elected delegates have taken their seats.
