Cyclone Montha is weakening after battering India's eastern cost with torrential rains and gusty winds as relief teams raced to restore power and clear debris across southern Andhra Pradesh and neighboring Odisha state.

Although Cyclone Montha has been expected for days, it has caught hundreds of trekkers and climbers in Nepal unaware. Several groups have needed rescue, and one climber lost his life on Monday when the bad weather prevented a timely rescue.

Priscilla has been losing punch but could still bring flash flooding to the southwestern U.S. over the weekend, forecasters say.

A severe cyclone that battered India's eastern coast this week caused damage estimated at nearly 53 billion rupees ($603 million), as farms, roads and buildings were flooded in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh,

It stated that a well-marked low-pressure area over northern Chhattisgarh and adjoining regions may move north-northeastward, causing heavy (44-88 mm/24 hrs) to very heavy (up to 188 mm/24 hrs) rainfall at places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Mymensingh divisions within 48 hours from 11am.
